Overcoming obstacles on the way to the AAU Junior Olympic Games.

Submitted by his mother Rosalind
Xavier is 9 years old and holds 5 world records in shot put. He won the AAU Jr. Olympics last year and just won the gold in shot put in Orlando, Florida for the AAU National Championship at the ESPN world of sports while also competing with his basketball team, The Houston Hoops BlueChips 2027, who won 2nd place in the AAU National Basketball Championship at the same place! Xavier throws with the All American Throwers in Houston, Texas.
Two years ago, Xavier was introduced to shot put. I had just lost my job and wasn’t sure if we would be able to fully commit to the sport. During this process Xavier really began to excel in shot put! We created a Go Fund me account and the City of Houston rallied behind him. Several news stations did stories on Xavier and before we knew it, we had everything we needed to get him to the Junior Olympics! That year in California, Xavier won the USATF Jr. Olympics and broke the record. That same month we flew back to Houston to compete and he placed 2nd at the AAU Junior Olympic Games. Last year, Xavier flew to Michigan and won 1st place at the AAU JO’s and second at the USATF JO’s.
We’re extremely proud of Xavier who works extremely hard! He has received a proclamation from our Mayor as well as done a nation Whataburger Commercial.
